    The Story Behind the Ballet

This original ballet draws inspiration from the classic Slavic fairy tale, "Father Frost." In this tale, a malevolent peasant woman sends her stepdaughter into the wintry wilderness as a sacrifice to the Lord of Winter, hoping to reduce her household burdens. Her plan goes awry when Father Frost returns the young maiden to her home, bestowing upon her gifts of furs, jewels, and silks. Enraged, the stepmother insists that her own daughter is far more deserving and sends her to Father Frost as well. However, the woman's daughter, being both mean-spirited and vain, meets a grim fate as Father Frost freezes her. Imagine a fusion of "Cinderella" and "The Snow Queen"!
